This is a Canadian based, and internationally linked collaborative community-of-practice web site devoted to sharing information regarding how science and technology foresight is planned, designed, developed and delivered in real applications pertinent to government, universities and industry. It draws upon a wealth of experienced practitioners and projects from 2000 to the present. The site includes reports and presentations that are available as resource documents to support the Canadian foresight community and those outside of Canada.
Foresight is an exploratory journey into building shared understanding and preparedness -anticipative capacity regarding the ways that events, technologies and complex societal factors and challenging or novel situations may evolve in the mid to long term future - roughly within a 5 -25 year time frame.
In foresight practice, our focus is on discerning multiple, plausible alignments to create diverse futures, any one of which we may have to be prepared to contend with. This really is because we cannot, precisely, know what the future will bring however the process of asking what if and how might are in themselves valuable for encouraging leaders to be prepared for diverse challenges.
Foresight is different from forecasting because it does not presume to select a single most preferred or probable alignment of future uncertainties - rather it seeks to elaborate several prospective important factors which participants believe will shape the future.
